Aaron Turner’s Blog

Hydrahead Recordings

Agli albori quindi tanto punk, tanto hardcore, tante rarità underground.

Botch - American Nervoso
Kahanate - Capture&Release
Mare - Ep

image image image

E poi, last but not least, alcuni album fondamentali da avere, Isis e side-projects esclusi:

Today is The Day - Self Titled image image Keelhaul - Subject To Change Without Notice
Jesu - Self Titled image image Pelican - Australasia
Cave-In - Until Your Heart Stops image image The Dillinger Escape Plan - Calculating Infinity
Sunn O))) - Void image imageXasthur - Nocturnal Poisoning

Being Justin Broadrick- The Man that Changed Music

image

"Final. Napalm Death. Godflesh. Jesu. Starting his music career at the age of 11, releasing his own demo for Final, signing up with Napalm Death in 1985, forming Godflesh in 1988, and Jesu in 2003, Justin Broadrick has had his hands in the metal scene, being a member of some of the most influential groups to grindcore, industrial metal, post-metal, and alternative metal. Turning down offers to join Faith No More and Danzig and producing for Pantera, Isis, Pelican, Earth, Knut, Justin Broadrick has earned the respect of musicians and fans alike. With the much anticipated release of "Why Are We Not Perfect" off of HydraHead this week, Justin Broadrick has once again proven that he can test the waters, push the limits, and continue to evolve.

Justin Broadrick doesn't have a scene. He isn't hanging out with record label people or music groups on the weekend and he doesn't live in the city. He is content hanging out with his girlfriend, listening to music, smoking dope, and watching movies. He loves art. He loves cinema. He feels a connection to cats. He drew as a kid. He isn't a rock star, though be swigs from a bottle of Jack Daniels after a show. Justin is a man who loves what he does, does it because he has to, and feels like he has gotten lucky."

MUCH LOVE: KNVBI Records

We've been considering a shout out segment on this blog for years...but it took this email from Shawn aka Lupy of KNVBI Records to motivate us to implement it.

Although we'd never heard of KNVBI Records until this evening, and if memory servers us, Shawn has been a big supporter of HHR and its artists, including Pelican, for years now. After reading the recent news of Pelican's robbery in Rome, Shawn/KNVBI have offered the following aid:

"Please post this. All profits from music purchased from myspace.com/knvbirecords or knvbirecords.com until Thanksgiving will go toward Pelican to help them recover the loss. I hope this will help. Feel free to word it however you would like.

Shawn
KNVBI Records"

Much love Shawn, thanks for the support.

SPOILER (click to view)
notice to los angeles area residents and visitors: there's a new record store in town. it is called "vacation". it is a record store in the most literal sense, featuring a carefully curated selection of vinyl LPs, 10"s, and 7"s, (as well as a hand picked assortment of CDs, magazines, cassettes, DVDs, books, turntables and other vinyl accessories). the inception of the store resulted from a series of casual meetings and more formal strategic planning sessions between the founders of two locally and international established entities: hydra head records and secret headquarters . after many discussions, wrestling matches, site surveys, recruitment seminars, and wholesale ordering, "vacation" is ready to open its doors to the public starting now - that is, saturday feb. 28, 2009.

in the welcoming environ of "vacation" visitors can find a slew of different musics to choose from: rock, soul, experimental, jazz, metal, hip hop, and many other forms of recorded sound that will please the discerning and distinguished palette of seasoned afficiandos and musical newcomers alike. aside from a wide variety of releases culled from all corners of the globe, "vacation" boasts the best selection of regularities and rarities from hydra head/isis/and related affiliates (including many new & out of print items unavailable elsewhere). the store is open 7 days a week and is located at 4679 hollywood blvd in the silverlake/los feliz area of LA, near the corner of vermont and hollywood. yes, we're vacation....

Bergraven - Till Makabert Vasen

Oscuro, sbilenco e imprevedibile. Gran voce del cantante tra l'altro.

CITAZIONE
4-way split released on double 7" by Hydrahead available on the tour of the same name and featuring all exclusive material . Pelican go acoustic, Kayo make an interesting Avant-Death Metal noise nastier than anything they've done, Steve Brodsky makes like Syd Barret doing a 1930's radio jingle for Lima beans and Zozorba cut out the build up and go straight for the meat of any Neurosis track you care to mention. It's a vinyl rip so expect some crackle and pop, you love it really.

Si trova ;)

Nuova uscita Hydra Head:

CITAZIONE
Nihill Announce Second Album In Trilogy , "Grond", out October 13th on Hydrahead!

image

GROND, chapter two in a trilogy, is an album wholly immersed in abstraction. The instrumentation renders a forceful merging of massive celestial bodies, each a whirling cacophony exuding a unique sonic trembling. After digesting the lyrics in accordance, what used to sound like the swinging of a pendulum, rather depicts a birth of unintelligible base... a spectral achievement even. Nihill, an outfit still very new to the American public, travels freely from one metal sub-genre to the next. The reflexive nature with which Nihill makes these connections might lead one to consider them genreless. GROND, for example, is at once: drone, doom, noise, industrial, and black metal; arriving at something resembling a sort mechanistic dark ambient more than anything else.

If anything this unique need suffer comparison for the sake of cognition, Nihill's nearest contemporaries are the likes of Sunn O))), Blut Aus Nord, Deathspell Omega. Moreover, If realized as an experience, rather than confining the moods and ideas therein to the nulling constructs of a conventional metal record, GROND offers the listener the opportunity to perceive things beyond physicality...

Grond Tracklisting:
1. Aard
2. Antimoon
3. Vacuum
4. Pulsus
